Welcome to Catherine Jopling’s lab at the University of Nottingham, UK
We are interested in understanding how microRNAs are made and how they function to regulate gene expression in healthy cells and in viral infection.
We are also working on molecular biology approaches to investigate and improve delivery of mRNA therapeutics.

PhD positions available
Funded PhD studentships through BBSRC DLA
RIC@N-DLA: Multiscale RNA Science from mechanisms to applications (Bioscience for Human Health): second round of applications open, deadline 17th May 2026. This is a cohort-based programme across University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University with a focus on RNA, recruiting for September 2026 entry. For more details see here.
If you are a self-funded PhD student, we have opportunities available for PhDs in various aspects of miRNA biogenesis and function. Please get in touch if you are interested.
